Seriously, it's almost doubled in the last couple years, and there is more to come this spring 2012.

This past week, in my capacity as a Minneapolis Bike Walk Ambassador, I helped plan and execute four bicycle facility grand openings in five days. Prior to that it was two weeks with one event each week. My head is spinning. I'm so happy to have all of the event planning wrapped up, and so thankful for all of the support of partnering organizations and bicycle enthusiasts. Whew.

Here is one of the key websites attached to many of these grand openings: Bike.Walk.Move.

What a whirlwind and seriously, it's October in Minnesota and we were gifted 80-degree weather the past week and barely a drop of rain.

Now we enjoy it while it's last, then I shall hibernate once again until the spring. Though, I hope to pedal myself a bit further into the cold weather this year than years past. Bring it.

What will my next endeavor look like?

I was thinking that over the winter it might be fun to go out and purchase a t-shirt from every single Minneapolis Bicycle Shop. That would be quite the collection. What would I even do with that many t-shirts? I certainly couldn't find enough time to wear them all.

For now I'll just stick with my local fave, Behind Bars Bicycle Shop.Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-2023509869038247872010-10-04T22:14:00.002-05:002010-10-04T22:26:07.983-05:00Habitat for Humanity + Bicycles = Awesome.Since I was a small child I have been interested in home building. Later came architecture, skyscrapers, city planning, and so on. I love watching anything go from bits and pieces to a fully functioning something. Legos were my favorite toy ever, so much to create, limited only by your imagination.

This later, when I was in college, led to a fascination with the idea of Habitat for Humanity, but I have never taken the time to figure out how/when to volunteer: until now.

This week the Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter project for Habitat for Humanity is focusing on rehab'ing and building in a North Minneapolis neighborhood. Local non-profit TLC (Transit for Livable Communities) put out a call for people with bicycles and trailers to form a pedal powered delivery team to deliver tools and supplies to the various sites around the neighborhood. You BET I signed up!

On Wednesday I will finally have my chance to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, all the better, it's practically in my back yard and I get to participate while on my bicycle. Not to mention this will be the FIRST thing for which I bust out the Burley Honey Bee trailer that was gifted to us at one of our many baby showers prior to Baby Dubs arrival. (Baby Dubs will get his first ride in it next spring!)

Excited does not even begin to describe my emotion over all of this.

hdb,

Mackenzie
Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-20026604994923442192010-08-25T16:22:00.004-05:002010-08-25T16:42:57.995-05:00Nice Ride
(Photo: Courtesy of NiceRidemn.org)

I finally did it.

I finally went for my first post-prego bike ride, and it was on a Nice Ride bicycle.

Here in Minneapolis, during my maternity leave, a new bicycle share system was launched. So far as I can tell, it is amazing.

* Nice Ride *

The bicycles are comfortable, the seats are big and easily adjusted up and down, the frames are step through, making them more functional for more people, they have three speeds, a bell, integrated headlights, and a nice basket/bungee set up on the front for carrying purses, briefcases, shopping bags, what have you. Oh yes, they also have skirt/coat guards (!).

My ride from a meeting in Downtown Minneapolis to my office at the University of Minnesota really was a nice ride. I was stopped in the left turn lane awaiting the light change, and a man in a car next to me asked how I like it. Seriously, if these bright green, can't miss 'em, bicycles just might be our answer to world peace. OK, maybe not, but everyone sure is interested in them!

Now, I have only one request for improvement: a conscious effort to educate Nice Ride users on the unlawfulness of sidewalk riding. Tall order.

I can't wait for this thing to expand! The first 30 minutes are free (for annual members). It is a way to keep the bicycles in circulation, because most people will try to make short trips, within the 30 minute window, rather than hogging the same bicycle for hours on end.

Can you tell how I feel about all of this? I'm totally sold. It will be interesting to see how things go on campus once all of the students return for fall semester. Good thing those clever Nice Ride folks went with bicycles that are sturdy, easy to use, but also difficult to rip off, and OBVIOUSLY not anyone's personal bicycle.

hdb,
MackenzieMackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-42795495185045240182010-07-09T13:46:00.008-05:002010-07-09T14:17:30.376-05:00Back in Black
"Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, Yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, back
Well I'm back in black
Yes I'm back in black"

Quick Update:

Baby WKTB arrived on Friday, May 21st at 12:54 am. Enough so that St. Patrick's Day, over the past few years at least, has been the first day that I pull the bike out of winter hibernation. Even if I KNOW for sure that we will get snow once more before spring truly arrives. Not jaded, just realistic, I know my home. :)

Given that I'm 30 weeks along on baking the pierogi in this oven, I'm hesitant. I'm hesitant, but not because I think that pregnant ladies should not bike.

Instead, I'm hesitant because I am clumsy. I frequently fall down, for no good reason. The clumsiest person I know, and since the hormones started working double time, my clumsiness has increased exponentially.

I'm torn. I love my bike and I miss it. Beyond that, I am going through some serious bicycle riding withdrawal especially with today and yesterday turning out to be 60+ degrees and sunny.

So, I guess I will just pull the bike up, give it a once over, fill the tires, and stare at it for a while before I decide to ride or not.

Decisions, decisions...

hdb,
MMackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-61793168186738245152010-02-26T12:44:00.002-06:002010-02-26T12:46:37.263-06:00Good Stuff from City of Lakes UrbanismMy friend "Jacobean" over at City of Lakes Urbanism, wrote this great post on Minneapolis' upcoming bicycle boulevards. I've known about these for a good long time, and I couldn't be more excited!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-59039873170267053782010-02-12T10:55:00.002-06:002010-02-12T11:29:23.669-06:00CrashesWell, it's winter here in Minnesota. *GASP* It won't let up for another 2.5 months, but I'm OK with that. I've lived here long enough to not get my hopes up for a snow free March/April. That said, I find that St. Patrick's Day is often the first day I pull my bicycle out of the garage for my first ride of the year.

Our fine friends on the East Coast have certainly gotten the worst of this winter's weather. In Minnesota we have seen the greatest snowfall since I was a kid, and I have to admit, I kind of love it. (Disclaimer: even with all we've gotten, we certainly haven't had to deal with the mess that's shut down the East, and for that I am thankful.)

I myself am not a winter cyclist, though I am a winter walker! When the winter snowstorms hit, walking is often the more convenient way for me to get around. I love plodding through the neighborhood after a fresh snowfall. Provided that people actually clear their sidewalks (AHEM, it is an enforceable city ordinance in the lovely Minneapolis).

I'm no stranger to falling ass over tea kettle a few times during the winter, but this time around, I have had to be much more careful. Especially since as of yesterday I'm sitting here 26 weeks pregnant. While I usually slip and fall in slow motion, I would rather not hurt myself or the pierogi growing within. Actually, it's not even the falling I'm so much worried about at this point as I am not being able to get up again on my own. *visualizing Bambi learning to walk*

After hearing about slip sliding around a friend of mine suggested "Yaktrax." I adore them! They're like snow chains for my feet! Certainly not fashionable, as I'm not into "overgearing" myself, but man alive have these puppies saved me from a fall multiple times already this winter. However, they do fit on a variety of my shoes: snowboots, tall black boots, even my Dansko mary janes.

Moving on from pedestrian crashes and onto bicycle.

A surprisingly large number of people cycle through the entire winter here. I'm impressed and admire each and every one of them. I have been told by many that you just expect to bite it about once per season. My boss bikes approximately 350 days/year and he's since gotten his annual fall out of the way.

Crashes with other people, bikes, and vehicles are another thing. An acquaintance's friend had a collision with a car the other day, breaking his collar bone, and his leg. My first question was," is he OK?!" My second question is always, "Did they report it?" By report I don't mean taking legal action, unless it is warranted, but I urge ANYONE who EVER gets into a crash with anyone for any reason to report it. Reporting these incidents is important, as the data collected can help inform improvements to the built environment or outreach efforts that are either geographically focused or widespread.

I'll hop off my soapbox now, and waddle off on my merry way.

hdb,

Mackenzie & pierogi-in-the-oven
Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-44024934637724014912009-11-13T11:59:00.002-06:002009-11-13T12:08:09.167-06:00Chicago!It's been far too long since I've visited Chicago, but here I sit! Arrived early this morning, took the train from O'Hare into the middle of the City, and here I sit near my hotel trying to get motivated to do homework. Graduate school is for the birds. Seriously. Who wants to be researching Housing Segregation and Public Health implications when I have Millennium Park and the Chicago Cycle Center (I refuse to call it the "McDonald's" Cycle Center) a stone's throw away?? UGH!

Perhaps I just solved the issue of motivation. As soon as I get some of these articles knocked out of the way, I'll wander over to the Cycle Center and see what I can find. I'll definitely have to snap some pictures, and be sure to pick up some information. Maybe they have implemented some programs that could be implemented at the University Bike Center? What an excellent adventure. We'll see if I actually have time to rent a bicycle and go for a little cruise.

If anyone out there in the blogosphere has some good recommendations for some fantastic, yet affordable restaurants accessible from Monroe and Wabash, don't hold out! :) Thanks!

hdb,

Mackenzie
Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-13456820752409428992009-08-21T10:12:00.007-05:002009-08-21T11:25:37.576-05:00Cyclopath & Breezer Birthday Bike
Every time I discover something new in the world of bicycling, especially things created/invented/manufactured in the Twin Cities, I feel lucky to live in Minneapolis, and want to tell everyone I know. I share my discoveries with others, whether it's new to everyone, or just new to me.

Due to my current place of employment I have been aware of Cyclopath for quite some time, but hadn't been mentioning it to others, because I hadn't yet used it enough to fully understand its capabilities, until this summer. The site is constantly being edited and improved by its users, and the front page got a snazzy make-over, which had led me to start spreading the word far and wide. I love it, and it has helped my take even more trips by bicycle that I would have waffled on before.

This site is everything wonderful in bicycle route-planning for which I had been longing. Those of us in the seven county Twin Cities Metro now have our very own route planning, way finding, point A to B direction giving tool, distance tracking tool, and it even plans the routes according to riding preferences and comfort. I absolutely love it.

Check it out here at: http://cyclopath.org/

Another reason that I have been biking more than ever (save for still being on my never-ending weight-loss mission)...My partner Jon bought me a brand spanking new bicycle for my 27th birthday! I don't have any pictures of mine yet, but here it is; a sibling of my new Breezer Villager. :) (Photo courtesy of the Breezer website)

My Detours recycled juice box pannier, and all of its great colors, goes well with my new bike. Little did many of us know that it was the same night as the Minneapolis Aquatennial Torchlight Parade! The parade goers had already set up camp along Hennepin Avenue by 6 pm, when our tour started. It was hilarious to be pedaling this big beast of cycling fun as the crowds waved and yelled in happy exclamation. Not even the most surly of evening commuters, or out-of-towners braving the traffic to get a front row seat for the parade, could help but smile and wave as they passed us during the tail-end of the evening rush hour. There's something about 16 people on a pedal-powered version of a pub-table/bar, complete with beer/wine in hand, that can make anyone stop, smile, and enjoy the moment.

My mom was jealous that I had the chance to experience the Pedal Pub, so I promised her that we would do our best to rent it for her birthday, she'll be 49 this fall. She also reminded me that the Pedal Pub is equipped and tap ready to handle a 16 gallon keg of your favorite beer. Looks like I'll be ordering up a keg of Summit this fall.

Pedal Pub Twin Cities

Here's some photo-documentation of the event itself, courtesy of the Birthday Boy. It's a salvaged fake Schwinn looking saddle that I bought from the depths of the One on One bike junkyard. It was awesome for about a minute.

Almost immediately one of the springs came un-sprung from the frame, and now the rough metal edges of the frame are poking through the saddle's exterior right into my bum. It carries my weight unevenly due to screwy springs, and is causing other issues. I only paid about $3.75 for it, so it's far outlasted my expectations! Perhaps it will become a wall decoration in our new home's "Bicycle Bay"? (Otherwise known as a carport to two+ car households.)

Anyone have any good brand/model suggestions, save for Brooks? I would love a Brooks saddle, but not sure that's in the financial forecast at the moment...

Cheers!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-76879407467178748982009-05-28T11:25:00.004-05:002009-05-28T11:55:35.630-05:00Holy Cow!It's been a long time since I've posted. Things got a little crazy around here.

The rundown:
- Tried to buy a house, closing fell through
- Still had to move out of apartment
- Nomadic Northeasters, stayed w/ friends while homeless
- Baked "Recession Hotdish" for Art-A-Whirl
- Studied for and completed three final exams
- Completed first year of grad school
- Worked on and participated in Bike Walk Week
- Tried to buy same house once more, SUCCESS!
- Moved into new house
- A lot of cleaning, unpacking, and fix-its around the house
- Started full time work for the summer
- Celebrated Jon's birthday

Whew. It's been a whirlwind couple of months.

I've been tooling around on my bike. My commute from the new house to the University is just over 5 miles. I've been testing different routes. I noticed a constant seam/expanding crack along the whole length of 2nd St NE the street all the way from the farthest reaches of NE to SE. I decided to look up the old streetcar maps. Yep, just as I suspected, the glint of steel I saw in the crack at one point was a buried rail. Perhaps 2nd street should be given back to the streetcars, because the rails they paved over so long ago just seem to keep on slurping up the asphalt anyway!

Still keeping an eye out for my next fully outfitted commuter bike. Liking the Masi "SoulVille 7", the Kona "Smoke", and Breezer "Uptown 8". Now, if only my credit union would do as they do in Portland...Bicycle Loans.

How else can I finance a bicycle through my local shop I wonder, short of a credit card?

Cheers!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-52809183401056542602009-02-25T15:25:00.003-06:002009-02-25T15:37:24.424-06:00Gearing up for Spring!

I just found my new favorite spring bike accessory. I'm a Minnesotan, born and raised, and we can't help but talk about our crazy weather. As though after 15, 26, 35, or 78 years a swing of 40 degrees over 24 hours is something shocking. Those darn Alberta Clippers. One day a frigid -20F, the next 20F. Whew, now that that's out of my system...

This week was a new start for many reasons. New semester and new president being the two topping my list. I enjoyed it. If I remember correctly, I believe that January 21st was scientifically found to be the most depressing day of the year. It's grey, dreary, wintry, cold, the holidays are far gone enough that the mundane routine has likely returned, and many folks are lacking Vitamin D.

I CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK ON MY BIKE!

I'm hoping that getting back to the grind will keep me preoccupied enough to power through to spring. The planning for Bike/Walk 2009 has commenced and that certainly helps for a speedy countdown to spring. Here's hoping finals don't interfere with the festivities and fun of what's sure to be the biggest event in Twin Cities Bike/Walk history. The state of the economy is going to make this the year for creativity and resourcefulness.

Speaking of the crappy economy. This recession has caused our doorstep to have been directly shat upon, like so many others. I won't go into too many details, thankfully we haven't yet "lost" a job, but the ever increasing number of jobs cut down in wages/hours/benefits has now hit home.

To pay homage to the tough times I brought some good old fashioned, truly Minnesotan "Recession Dip" to the inauguration potluck we attended on Tuesday. Not exactly. That equation isn't really mathematical at all. Instead it will serve as a reminder that I'm turning 27 and will do my damnedest to lose 54 lbs in 2009.

This fall was my first semester back to school in four years. My partner, Jon, and myself had some new household changes and challenges to tackle above and beyond the added adjustment of navigating full-time, nay, double-time grad school and a half-time job. He's been beyond supportive and understanding in every way imaginable, and I am more thankful that words can express to have him by my side constantly encouraging me and helping me down from the ledge when I'm a ginormous ball of stress. He is my rock. The end of 2008 allowed things wind down a bit, everything at this moment is more or less under control, and even thriving, for which I am also very thankful.

The calm of winter break has allowed me to reflect not only on aspects of my life that I can improve upon this upcoming semester and in 2009, but also brought to light the things that I let fall off by the wayside for the worse.

I'm chubby. Chubbier than ever before. When did this happen? I've lost lbs and been healthy weights, I've gained and been overweight. Well, I've always, in my mind, been a girl built with what we'll call a "more to love" physique. Overweight, not obese, but somewhat lucky for me curvy and fairly proportionate, even in my weight gain. The bubble butt is in the genes from ALL sides. I kid you not, even the youngest, thinnest, fittest, and athletic of my family members carry this back-side. Over the course of 26 years I have learned to embrace it. No matter how much I have ever gained or lost, it's always there to remind me to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Thank you, Noble/Morrison/Turner/Stensrud bubble butt, for teaching me such an important life lesson. Maybe I'll start referring to it as my "MacPack" an homage to Kirby Puckett and his "PuckPack"? Or not...

To what do I owe this latest case of "chubby"? I blame grad school, and my complete inability to manage school, work, home, and what my body needed. I think I have the tools I need now to improve that situation.

Things I will make time for in 2009:

1. I will ride my bike to school at least 3 times/week (once spring arrives).
2. I will consciously seek out at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week.
3. I will eat healthfully and once again faithfully follow my Weight Watchers plan.
4. I will lose 20% of my weight over the course of 2009. I've got 51 weeks.
5. We will buy a house in lovely Nordeast and add to our family.
6. I will try a new sport: Looks like it's going to be broomball, wish me luck.
7. I will go cross country skiing at least 3 times before the snow goes away.
8. I will try a new recipe twice a month.
9. I will diligently use my Blue Sky Guide.
10. I will make a conscious effort to see my closest friends, more often.
11. I will give Jon a straight answer on when we can start trying for babies.*

* Disclaimer: My getting pregnant requires that we purchase a cargo trike for me to carry my sure to be big, poorly balancing, pregnant self, and thereafter: our children and groceries.

This one will do: TrioBike

Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-53621581778337149142008-12-07T19:10:00.003-06:002008-12-11T08:21:19.418-06:00Two Too Dapper Two-WheelersJenny and Joel,

My apologies that it has taken this many months to post this lovely picture. I turned, knee popped out of joint, back into joint, lost balance, hit the floor spread-eagle on my back, in my fancy red bridesmaid's dress no less. Classy as always...

This is day three of 70 + degrees. It's November 5th. Not sure what's going on, but I'll take it! Unless of course this is a result of global warming...which is one of the things I'm trying to improve by bicycling...hrmmm.

All of that behind me, my knee has mended to 95% and all is well. We'll see if I can managed to emerge unscathed from wedding and wedding party number two in the coming weeks.

I don't think I mentioned that I purchased an additional bicycle? It is a 1970's Schwinn Continental, with a "Root beer" paint job. I was so excited to have friction shifting for the hills along my commute. I still love and ride my three speed Raleigh Coasting, but the auto-shifting and three speeds wasn't doing my knees any favors.

I also purchased a little knogg frog headlight in pink. I adore it, and it well matches my Starbright model Nutcase helmet.

Don't have any photos of the bicycle as of yet, but will try to get some posted soon.Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-58203576195490706462008-10-23T17:13:00.002-05:002008-10-23T17:18:27.654-05:00MileMeterSaw this on another blog, but can't recall which one. I thought it was rather interesting! I was searching for something like this when I started driving Jon's car a bit here and there, but no such thing yet exists in Minnesota, as far as I could find. Let me know if anyone else has heard otherwise, but here's a story about Texas, from the BikePortland blog.

MileMeter

Best!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-89108382492500273652008-10-15T21:48:00.005-05:002008-10-15T21:53:40.560-05:00Coot off! I failed to put it up earlier, but am very excited that it is fast approaching! I have been spreading the word to folks at work, and in other circles, but hopefully putting it up here will help the cause too!

Unite Bike 2008

REALLY cool concept! I have about three conflicting commitments that day, but still hoping I can squeeze it in.

If you are from the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area or just happen to know some lovely bicycling types that are here, please spread the word! I would love to see this thing absolutely blow people's expectations out of the water!

Cheers!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-23671013129882515782008-09-05T20:02:00.002-05:002008-09-05T20:22:23.754-05:00Bike-PartisanI heard from an insider today that the Humana & Bikes Belong Freewheelin' bike-share program logged over 13,000 miles in Minneapolis and St. Paul during the RNC! Not too shabby considering Gustav stalled the festivities some, and the weather wasn't superb for promoting bicycling to folks who may not typically be interested otherwise.

Weather is no excuse for the native Minnesotans, but we'll let it slide for the many others who aren't acclimated to our weather patterns. Here in Minnesota we're a hearty stock. One of the local bicycle shop owners said it best, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." So true. I can't wait until we have a permanent bike share program up and running!

I also have it on good authority that Denver's mileage blew ours out of the water. But in the end, it's just really exciting that so many people hopped on and took advantage! Well done Denver!

And since I have nothing else nice to say about the RNC, I will say nothing at all. All I ask is that you educate yourself on all sides of the issues, register, and vote. I just began my graduate program at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, and I believe it was Dean J. Brian Atwood who said something to the effect of "Respect the beliefs and opinions of others, you will learn the most from those you don't agree with."

I leave you with this advertisement that was posted over at Copenhagenize.com.

Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-64234368127628903782008-08-08T11:32:00.006-05:002008-08-15T09:50:26.268-05:00Ch' Ch' Ch' CHANGES!It's been a month, and I still have yet to post a photo of my bicycle. It's been a month of running around, and the inability to multi-task and get my crap together! However, the design abstract, and materials list for my skirt guard are firmly in place, and I'm just waiting on the next pay check at this point! I'm really excited about the material, and fun pattern of that material I plan to use for the skirt guard. I think it will prove quite durable, water resistant, and easy to clean. I will certainly document the process along the way, and can't wait!

I moved again and couldn't find my camera prior to the move, and since have found it impossible to even begin to know where to look. Bedroom? Maybe. Attic? Maybe. Big storage unit full of all kinds of indiscernible cardboard wrapped belongings? Maybe. Laptop bag that hasn't been touched for years? BINGO!

The Rundown o' Changes.

I've moved, for the 11th time in 5 years. Ridiculous, I know. I don't think it's quite right, and have been taking suggestions from friends on Facebook. Lots of good names, and so far the front runner is Gertrude the Grocery Getter. Gertie or Gert for short. Still very open to suggestions!

Peace.
Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886373143848797351.post-88321782520975385612008-07-10T16:38:00.001-05:002008-07-10T16:39:04.640-05:00Island of misfit...bicycles?I took my bike for it's first tune-up earlier this week. The chain is cleanly oiled, and everything just peachy. Though I forgot to request a new nut to keep my chain guard in place. The dumb nut fell off sometime earlier this season, so now the chain guard occasionally slips and grates against the chain as I ride...not awesome. Oops.

I'm a pretty resourceful/handy person, so I'll be able to figure it out, but still stupid that I forgot to say anything to the people who were going to be taking my bike apart anyway...live and learn. :)

My newest obsession is finding a bicycling helmet that doesn't look so geeky. I ride slow. I don't need a super-vented, aerodynamic helmet. I hope to be able to track down a pink one, or maybe with a fun graphic at a local shop, but meanwhile I've been drooling over the Bern helmets on the London Cycle Chic page...so pretty.

I also recently, yet finally, stumbled across an entire community of people out there in the world whom I find it easy to relate. Copenhagenize, Copenhagen Cycle Chic, London Cycle Chic and all related cultural offshoots are my newest interest. It feels as though I finally belong somewhere, there IS a place for me in the bicycle culture! I'm not a misfit! Bajillions of people out there just like me, and FAR more chic than I'll ever be, but all part of the "Slow Bike Revolution", as it were. I never fail to be amazed by the power of the internets, the Google, and the blogosphere.I still ought to post some pictures of my bicycle, eh?

Next project: DIY skirt guard!Mackenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14258587169198458333noreply@blogger.com9
